My 96 Explorer has 101,000 miles on it. I have changed the fluid and filter at 35, 65 and 99000 miles. After setting all night, then restarting the next morning, the tranmssion does not want to immediately go into gear. Almost as if it were low on fluid. After its warmed up and you get a few miles down the road, everything works fine all day long. What could be wrong?
Just a quick report back to the group, I have fixed the problem with this transmission.
I changed the filter and flushed the entire system with T-tech at Mobil One.
The old filter was missing the O rings on the top of the filter where it fits up into the bottom of the transmission. The absence of the O rings caused more air than fluid to pass on into the transmission from the pan. This caused the delayed engagement when fluid was cold in the mornings.
Transmission working great now with 103,000 miles on it.
I hope my experience can benefit someone out there.
