i would like to fix up a way to drain the fluid from my 96 explorer that don't have a tc drain. seems like the pumps the shops are using to do this by hooking into the cooler lines should be relatively simple to rig up. has anyone done this? which side of the cooler would you hook up to? someone told me that they pumped the new fluid back in basically the same way. couldn't it be put in the old way after the old fluid has all been removed?
thanks for all your help!!
scott
You can pump it out yourself. Basicly disconect a cooler line and run the engine a bit while the fluid gets pumped out. Refil the pan and repeat until the fluid is new looking. See this link for good details on a Superduty truck. The Explorer will be slightly different but you get the idea. http://www.ford-diesel.com/faq/1999faq/Maintenance-AutoT.htm
thanks v10man,
went to that site and you're right, lots of good info. i also have an f350 with the infamous e4od and need all the help i can get with that too. btw, how do you like the v10? better than the powerstroke?
scott
Napa carries a drain plug kit for the automatic tranny all you need to do is drill a hole in the pan at the desired spot and have someone braze in the drain plug kit.
It is actually quite a simple install and works great.
