Has anyone heard if you can get an extra key and have it cut and program it yourself using your ignition like in the 2000 model F150? You can get keys off that auction website for $3-4 and have Wally World cut them for $1 and program them yourself if you have two other keys. The procedure isn't in the manual for 04 and I don't want to pay the Ford price.
Here's the thread you wanna read - there are eBay sellers selling great keys cheap. You can use your two original keys to program this third key. All for less than $20 or so. Much cheaper than the $80 the dealership will want.
I have a 2000 expedition a 2002 ranger and an 04 Scab my local locksmith make two more keys for each vehicle they were 24 bucks each and then I programed them with the instructions in the book with the vehicle.

What did that include? If the dealer does the programming they will charge you the shop rate for the amount of time that it takes or some minimum, like 1/2 hour ($35).
My extra keys at the local dealer were $17.50 each key, he cut them, I programmed them. No hassle, no $5.00 shipping, no mailing, no lost blanks in the mail, no running around (gas cost and added mileage) to get keys cut, etc. etc. etc.

Formyfordvan-the $17.50 price for a spare key is a good price for a dealer (should be cheaper) but the last time I called my dealer they wanted more than that, actually about $35 per key. I don't know why there is so much variation but I wiil call again to see if the price has come down. I'm like you, I don't care about buying on E-bay,w/shipping and other b.s.
