Do you have them in your area? The people that stand at intersections holding up signs for an open house, new restaurant, big sales, etc. Who came up with this marketing (torture) technique. The poor people are standing out there in the sun all day (I live in S. Texas and it is still hot!) for a few bucks. I guess a job is a job, but I just feel bad for those people. Any thoughts on this?
i did that when i worked for dominos... didn't really like it... but we all had to take a turn out there holding the sign during the dinner rush so it wasn't so bad. after i gave the finger to some guys in a pickup that laughed at me my boss didn't make me do it anymore
what i really don't like is how wal mart deals with their workers and takes over other businesses so i don't shop there. sure they're cheaper but what if wal mart takes over my job. won't matter much then.

we have a local pizza place that has young teenage girls holding signs advertising there daily specials I personally wouldn't let my daughter flaunt her self this way. I think this is degrading.
Yea, we got those guys......I drive by and make them pay the price of their demeaning humiliating job. I throw cans of soda, water bottles, salt tablets.
Well kinda. Mostly not. Actually.....I've been known to hand a beer to those poor mothers sweating in the sun....I'd rather give them a beer, soda, water...than have their job.
I see them around here all the time.
Once for a couple weeks at this one intersection, there was a guy or girl on all four corners of the intersection, each with a different sign pointing a different way. It was like somethign from a cartoon, where the sign post has arrows pointing all different directions.
I've found that some just stand there holding that big dumb arrow, while others really get into it. They wear headphones and listen to music, and dance like crazy.
One guy was actually pretty good, spinning the sign all around, tossing it up and catching it - only problem was I couldn't tell what direction he was trying to get people to go.
we have to do it at Jiffy Lube when we have no cars in the bays, its the dumbest thing, i hate haveing to do it looks so bad having to beg for business
Got 'em here too, mostly for store closings and furniture sales. Around here it's usually college kids earning beer money. I guess if somebody's willing to do it, better them than me.
I'm from the bible belt, and most of the people standing on street corners are yelling at you about their personal choice in religion. They look REALLY hot in those suits!!!
The guys are everywhere out here. Vegas is the fastest growing city in the nation and houses fly up left and right, and every time they have an open house they will put a guy out there with an arrow. Also, I have seen em dressed up as chickens and the greek guy from little ceasars. Fun to throw stuff at em! By the way, I love Wall-Mart, just got back from there!

Yeah, we have them too. They are advertising their "Hot and Ready" $5 pizza!
We have them all over the place here in NJ. I think every corner and intersection has on on it. 99% of them are Mexican. Then again who else would do work like that?? They stand out there from 8 in the morning till 7 at nite. Try to get some lazy *** american kid to do that.
I've seen those persons out in front of a local steak/buffet type restaurant advertising their cheap buffet. Usually it's young girls doing it, I suppose so people don't give them a hard time. I actually felt sorry for them for having to subject themselves to such a demeaning job, just for a few bucks. That is until, my neighbor's niece told me it's much worse to be inside bussing tables for the same money.

If I had a duaghter, she wouldn't work there, or anyplace that has that kinda crapola...
I live about 40-50 miles from you, Tuffy, and while I don't get up that way too often, i think I know of the place you are talking about....
kinda makes me wonder, does OSHA have any say in this, cause it gets pretty dadgummed hot in north missoouri, during summers.
(btw, i live north of laclede, in the country)
