I am about to buy a '86 B2 And I have a few questions. First of all can it fit 31's stock and will the four-banger turn them? Second of all if I put in a dana 60 rear/dana 44 front with 4.10 gears would i have to put in my 360 also or could I keep the original 4 with a few mods? Any info would be helpful. Thanks
31's will almost certainly rub without some some sort of lift or sawzall trimming. Don't know how the 4-banger would like 31s, but it would certainly be a big change from the stock 205/75/15s.
You shouldn't NEED the 360, but it would sure throw more mud and rocks! A 2.9 or 4.0 V6 would do better than the 4-banger and would still fit between the fenders. I've read that a 5.0 V8 is a common swap also. But I've never driven the 4-cylinder version, so it's all speculation on my part.
I have the 2.9 and 3.73 gears running 235/75 tires. I believe that if I had 4.10s and 31s, I'd still be able to run 75-80 on the highway without too much trouble.
I did not know 1986 B2s came with 4 cyl. engines? If it is a 4 banger, is it two wheel drive with a swapped in drivetrain?
FWIW: Most B2s rip the floor pan under the driver's seat, especially if it is rusty. Before you take it off-road make sure the body mounts are 100% okay.
