sway bar?

i have a 79 bronco just purchased. it had a broken bolt that connected the "sway bar" to the frame. i replaced the bolt, drove it to work and back home ( about 10 miles ), as soon as i got home i checked it and sure 'nuff it was broken again. is this an aftermarket bar or what? it also has one in the rear which also attaches to the axle housing.

Could be the bushings are bad and its binding too much. That could cause the problem. I assume you replaced the bolt with grade 8 hardware.

yes i did go with grade 8. when i went the parts store & told them what i needed i got the bushings (these where the same as those i took off) and a bolt about 2 1/2 in. long. the one i needed was 8 in. long. an obvious communication problem. the next time i asked i was told that was a "non-stock" item & they couldn't order it. i need to switch parts stores.

razell, are you talking about the "bolt" that goes from the frame to the sway bar? if so the only place i have seen that carries this is LMC truck. both of mine are brokena and have been for months. they are about $40 each.

yep, that's the one. about a 3/8 bolt with a shoulder 2/3s of the way down. so this is not an aftermarket bar? guess i'll have to search around & find out who does have it. it'll bug me 'till i get it fixed. thanx 4 the info.

only take it off if your bushings are good. if not your sway will be amplified.

I have a Rancho 4" suspension lift. I haven't ran a sway bar for two years. Take it off!
