Diesel Kleen additive, how much R U addin
I was just wanting to check with some of yall to see how much is being added. I was adding about 16 ounces to each fillup, when a truck driver friend of mine said that was not enough, to add about 1 ounce per gallon pumped. Thanks for any input, he also uses the white bottle year round instead of the grey like I use during the summer.

I don't know about Diesel Kleen, I use Stanadyne Performance Formula. I buy it by the case in 16 oz bottles from Diesel Injector Service. The Stanadyne has lines on the labels for how many gallons that amount would treat. I know that my tanks are just a little smaller than the amount for half a bottle, so I just split it. The extra won't hurt anything, it is just a very slight waste of money. That works out to about 8 oz for 20+ gallons.

I use the white bottle for winter and the grey for summer, but the ratio is the same for either one according to the label directions.
A 96 ounce bottle I have in front of me says it treats 300 gallons. Thats 96 divided by 300 or .32 ounce per gallon. So a 30 gallon fill would require 9.6 ounces, or a ten gallon fill 3.2 ounces.
The label indicates you can double the dose and get faster injector cleanup. That would require 19.2 ounces for a 30 gallon fill or 6.4 ounces for a 10 gallon fill (.64 ounce per gallon).
I carry a little clear juice bottle I have marked in three ounce increments. I add three ounces per ten gallons of fill. Hope this helps!

I got a bottle for mixing oil for a 2 stroke that has ounces marked on it. I use about 1 ounce per 3 gallons to make it easy. I waste a lot less this way since I would almost pour too much in when pouring stright from the bottle to the tank. I found it at Wally world in the boat supplies for about $2.00 so it did not take long to pay for itself by not adding extra cleaner each time. I'm sure you can find it a bottle other places too.

With my Excursion, I'm typically filling it way before it hits empty (44 gallon tank). So I've done the calculations you've all done and marked a few of the 24 oz DK bottles in 1/4 tank increments (11 gals, 22 gals & 33 gals) as appropriate for the amount of DK needed (7oz, 14oz & 21oz, respectively). I buy the 96 oz DK jugs and fill the bottles to the highest mark, knowing that I can treat up to 33 gallons when I fuel up. You might ask "what about the 11 gallons already in the tank?", well those were 'treated' with an initial heavy dose the first time. After that, what is in your tank is already treated. You only need to add what is appropriate for the amount you're adding. So I keep at least one of the small, marked bottles in my truck at all times, and add as much as needed when I refuel.

I add it just as you do silentlysoaring, and I always keep a bottle in the toolbox. It does seem to make a huge difference in the performance of the engine but I haven't really noticed much in the line of improved MPG. I do notice a 2-3 MPG difference when I change my fuel filter out when I change the engine oil though. I have tested that theory by not changing it out one time and my mileage stayed right around 16 in city, changed the filter out and it jumped up to about 18 almost 19, and slowly creeps down the longer that its in there.

If you haven't already, read the excellent "scientific study" by gchavez at the beginning of this forum, check it out. I always ran Stanadyne each tank, in Alaska; but switched to Diesel Kleen, because Wally World sells it cheaper and it's easier for me to get. 1/2 a bottle of gray for each fill-up(29gal tank). I do run the white bottle in winter. I calculated getting about a 1 1/2 mpg more with it. It does seem to run quieter, which isn't saying much with a 4 inch pipe straight back, no cat. Some dieselheads/mechanics swear by it every tank; others I know don't use it and have 300K plus mile on the engine.

I have been using DK for several months. I normally use the white bottle with anti-jell and notice a slight increase in power response and about .2 to .3 mpg increase to 17.2 mpg. About a month ago I tried the gray bottle and driving the same route and style my mileage increased to 17.6. I use 10 ozs per fillup (22 gals. avg) and carry a six pack bottle carrier and plastic water bottles (about 10+ oz. size) filled in my tool box, they don't tip over or spill. Just pour one in and fill with fuel, no mess and I always have it with me. I will have to try increasing the amount and see what response I get. My mileage is calculated over about a 1000 miles average. I would not run without it, I do notice a performance difference.
