temp gauge

i installed a 195 thermo in my 460. on a 75 degree day the temp goes to about half way up or the r in normal. is this to hot? about how many degrees is this? i want it around 190...

The 195* is only the OPENING point of the thermostat.
The engine operates at over 200*
