I have an '89 2.9L manual trans. with 127,000 miles on it. It ran fine up until 5 months ago. Now it will not start on the first try after sitting for several hours, starts, but stalls out after a second or so, but it always stays running on the second. It hesitates after it does start, and if I try to give it gas to rev the engine, it seems to wat to stall again. Once it is running though, it is a gem. It has been to a garage and a dealership, and neither have a clue what is going on. All they know is what isn't wrong. It doesn't matter if it is 100 degrees or 32 degrees out....it still does it. Anyone else been down this road before. Please help a man who will need a starter soon if this persists!! Thanks in advance!!

I would start by checking the fuel pressure before start, pulling the codes, and try turning the key on/off a few times before starting. There's a check valve that fails and allows the fuel to drain back into the tank and turning the key on/off will run the pump a few more times.
Fuel pressure is 37 lbs. at start and 34lbs. after sitting for 6 hours. No codes have been set, and turning the key to the on position several times has shown no change. Cat flows perfectly fine. Timing is dead on. Truck had tune up 3 months ago...nothing. I have looked at all possibilities and still have come up with nothing. It can't be the O2 sensor, because that only functions when the engine is hot. I am quickly running out of ideas.
