90 aerostar 5speed 3.0 L just bought it today need some help

Just bought a 90 5 speed with about 77,000 miles on it thats right 77,000 miles on it . i bought it from a old couple here in idaho. they let there daughter use it for the last year or two and it looks like from what the old man has to say his daughters 4 kids and 2 dogs where a little ruff on the inside . looking for a place i can get carpet kit for it here on the net besides jc witney. also the headliner looks like like the dog and kids had some fun with it also any help there? well on to other things is this setup rare? the outside is in pretty good shape needs a good wax job. but it does have a few promblems first the power steer is leaking not sure if its a seal or what. and the front end is a mess. it is all sloopy and loose as you drive. does not like shake or anything its just sloopy and loose whats up with that ? i am thinking the whole front end is in need of a rebuild. by the way i pick this baby up for 700 dollars i think thats a pretty good deal. another promblem is the ac is not working its not blowing cold air at all i am guessing this setup is r12 if so will one of those refitt kits from walmart be ok? and the tires are shot on it and it would seem that they are worn real bad on the out and inner sides. thanks any and help would be great sorry for the long post.

A/C. If the only problem with the A/C is a low charge I would advise getting it recharged with the original R12 (assuming the van hasn't been converted to R134a). The R134a Walmart kits (aka Death Kits) will probably work fairly well for up to a few years - if the problem is due to low charge - but will hasten the death of the system. I used one in my 1992 as a temporary measure, and it worked well for 2 years, prior to replacing the components with those designed for later models which used R134a.

The PS leak may well be from the pinion seal, which is where the steering column shaft enters the rack. A rebuilt rack only costs about $85 and includes the inner tie rod ends so a new rack could cure the leak and some of the looseness in the front end. It is rather easy to replace - unless you have AWD. Have a look at the outer tie rod ends as well. An alignment will be needed after this work. At your van's low mileage the upper and lower ball joints are probably ok.

The excessive tire wear on both edges sounds like a classic case of low air pressure.

decide don't like the van. so i wiil put some work into it then get rid of it. it will have new tires and a tune up.
