Just an FYI .. the 4.6 has to be revved to I think 4700 rpm to get hp .. and the 5.4 gets it a little over 4200 .. The 5.4 would be better of course if you were going to use it to pull.. do a search on torque if your looking to pull..otherwise my 4.6 does fine...

Torque ratings are so much more relevant in terms of performance than horsepower is, particularly in such heavy vehicles. Guaranteed that the 5.4 will outrun the 4.6 to a degree not suspected by just looking at the HP ratings.
I don't dislike the 4.6, having driven one 78,000 miles with zero engine issues, but it's just not as strong a performer as any year 5.4, particularly if, as another poster says, you intend to use the vehicle for towing.
