88 b2 - Q's
In process of reconditioning an 88b2 and I'm looking for some helpful advice.
1. The side window outside trim has white paint stains, faded, etc., and I'd like to repaint it. Can this trim be removed by removing the inner interior pannels and unbolting from inside or what ?
2. The seams under the rain drip rail located between the top of the side window and rear liftgate has cracked and separated (maybe 1/32"). What would be the best repair.... heavy duty adhesive, JB Weld, brazing, etc. ? Fix from inside vs: outside ?
3. How can I get the aluminum wheels to clean up ? They are the wheels rimmed by small holes and circled by rivets ?
4. What year b2 and ranger parts can be interchanged with 88b2, both interior and exterior ?
Thanks,
Stan
For question 1: on my 89 Bronco2 (which is slightly different from the 88) the outside window trim can be removed very easily whithout removing any door panels. First, roll down the window. The trim is held to the outside half of the door by about 6 clips spaced evenly apart. Get a thin flat-head screwdriver and, by standing outside the truck, slip it under the top lip of the trim and between the trim and the door. If you pry enough, you can see the clips. Pry the trim straight up near each clip, starting from one end. Once you get 2 or 3, it should go real easy. (Go easy cuz the screwdriver can easily scratch the paint if not careful.) Instead of repainting, JCWhitney sells replacement pieces. Make sure to straighten out the new pieces and install by starting at one end ond pushing down to get the clip into the slot in the door. Angling the top of the trim away from you makes it much easier.
As for question 3: I think Castrol Wheel Cleaner (purple spray bottle) works the best!! Wash the wheels with car wash, then spray on the wheel cleaner and SCRUB with a frim-bristled brush, then hose off. If the stuff dries before you rinse it off, you gotta do it all again.
Good Luck
