I have an 89 Bronco with a 302 and was told that the ingition module was probably bad, so my question is how do you get it off? There are two screws that hold it on the distributor body but can only get the wrench on one of them. I am not a motor head at all and didn't want to find out by trial and error and then have to worry about the timing afterwards, Thanks.
You probably got the front one. To get at the back one I always loosen the dist hold down and turn the dist counter clockwise as far as I can then I can get to it. Mark where the dist is before moving it so you can put it back when you're done but you should still set the timing with a light after you're done.
If you need to remove the module, there is a "special" tool just for this. Parts stores sell them. 5-6 bucks I think. "Ignition Module Removal Tool". But I wonder if an Allen wrench in the appropriate size will work? Or is it a Torx? Anyway, they come off without much trouble and you don't have to mess with the distributor. Put di-electric grease on the new one.
I just had this done on my 1990 Bronco. I had to move air hoses and twist distributor. That tool ChargerFan mentioned, you can pick them at O'rileys or wherever for 4 or 5 bucks. Just make sure you clean off the heat transfer paste and apply your new coat well.
The distributor body sits on a short post, is that what you fellas are talking about turning? There is a clamp on the bottom of the post that I loosened but it won't turn.
If your timing hasn't been messed with in a long time, the dist. may stick and require a little effort to get it to twist freely even after loosening the clamp. Just make absolutely certain that you mark the original position before you move it otherwise you will have to go back and reset the timing with a light.

Actually that "post" is part of the dist body/casing and yes you need to turn the whole dist body. As stated earlier you may need to put some muscle into it(make sure the hold down bolt is loose enough). even if you mark the initial position you should still reset the timing when you're done.
