Possible problem
after about 4-5 seconds, I get this weird sound. It's not extreemly loud, but kind of like a low burping sound from the engine, and it only lasts for about a second.... And no it's not me!
It does this every time. I can turn the ignition off and back on again, and it repeats the sound. Does anyone else have this sound? Does anyone know what it could be?
FYI: There are no animals in the engine compartment!

Best of Luck,

After warming up the truck and getting it to operating temps (WOT a bit just to make sure), I parked the truck and it does it every time. It happens after the 4th "ding" when you turn the key.
It does it every time, and it does not seem normal.

The sound I 'think' your hearing is normal.. It is the anti lock brake unit.. It will give a 'grunt' for a second or two, a few seconds after 'cycling' the key on.. It is located in front of the left (drivers side) battery under the rubber flap (down low).. Hold your hand on it and have someone cycle the key on, or, you can check it yourself if your fast enough!!.. The noise??

You will hear a humming/buzzing sound, 'easily heard' under the left (drivers side floor) this is the electric fuel pump/HFCM and will run for more than a few seconds. Usually about 20 seconds or so..
You 'may' also be able to hear the vacuum pump run, also for more than a few seconds, usually about 15, but 'can' be longer.. Its mouned on the passenger side inner fender area.. (you said your noise was on the drivers side)..
And, the ABS brake controler will make a short 'grunt' about four seconds after a 'KEY ON' condition, and will last only last about 1-2 seconds.. (foot off the brake)
Here's how to identify them..
Turn the key to the 'ON Position' with your foot hard on the brake (before turning the key on).. You'll hear a combination of the fuel pump running (20 seconds or so) and the vacuum pump as well (but not always).. With your foot still hard on the brake pedal, 'wait' for the fuel pump and vacuum pump to stop running, then reach over and cycle the heater A/C controls/vents 'back and forth' to use up the stored vacuum (you'll hear a hissing sound when going between positions/vents).. The vaccum pump will come on and run for about 15 seconds with a few short runs/pulses before clicking off.. Thats the vacuum pump..
Now, let your foot off of the brake pedal and you'll hear the ABS controller as the final noise.. OR, to ID just the ABS noise, you can just hold the brake, turn the key on and let it go 'after' all the other noises have 'stopped'.. If won't make the noise until you release the brake pressure.. ABS..
'All are normal noises'

I guess that I only started to hear it because it is getting cooler in the morning and I was letting the glow plugs heat up. I pay attention to every sound my truck makes, and if something changes, I always take note.

Its good that your that 'aware'
Some folks don't hear the ABS, because they jump in and 'hold' the brake before a start even when using the glows.. Glad is was noth'n serious
