Cool PTCB/Module problems! 98 Expedition

My 98 Expedition has spent eleven of the past twelve weeks at the Ford dealer service dept. The dealer is now on Power Train Control Module number three, and the truck has been towed in three times now. Out of the past twelve weeks, I have had the truck for four days. It will be running fine, and then shut down completely with no warning and will just turn over and not fire if I try to restart it. The dealer has told me they talked with FMC and they are of no help and said 'it's not our problem." So far this time the dealer has had the truck for three weeks. I think with FMCs hands off attitude, I might have owned my last Ford. It really saddens me to think that way, as I have owned numerous Ford Vans and Trucks since 1978. I always thought Fords were the best built trucks, but I think now they have changed and have developed the idea that they don't need to stand behind their product and us suckers will keep buying Fords. If anyone has an idea as to why this keeps happening, please let me know so I can tell the "Ford Master Technician" how to fix my truck. Thanks, Mike

Mike, sorry to hear about your problems. I've been around here a very long time and have never heard of a similar experience. It really sounds like the local dealership is trying to right the ship.

Good Luck.

Just curious: was the truck being driven in the rain, or had been recently washed when the breakdowns occurred?

It was dry. clear weather, and the truck had not been washed in the weeks that the dealer had it. The plot has thickened a little now, the dealer has said the oxygen sensors are causing the PTCM to burnout and wants to replace the sensors (for the low price of two-hundred eighty-six dollars.) The dealer also wants to do a complete tune-up. The truck was completely turned and serviced less than five-thousand miles ago. I am pretty sure this is the last Ford product I will own. It's pretty bad when the manufactuerer can't trouble-shoot their own product.

I'm far from an expert, but I've gotta whistle BS on a bad O2 sensor causing mutliple PCM's to fail.
