i was cruisin home one night and i notices my truck was runnin hot i got home and got out alli heard was psssshhhhh opened hood cloud of steam arose and i discovered my timing cover ( behind water pump) was leaking from behind gasket i was like whattt??? so i put a pan to catch antifreeze the dripped down and waitin until morning for further inspection. i called a local shop that rebuilt the motor about this and they said it was common for the 460 to do this, now my question is why is a newer motor ( less that 10k on it ) warping a fricken timing cover the shop said they would remill it to get her straight again for either free or very cheap depending how long it takes so what are all your guy's opinions on this, i think this is retarded for a new motor to do this has anyone had any experiance w/ this thanks Darren
no...... it was leaking behind the timing cover right where the gasket is looked like the gasket is getting nasty but still gaskets usually dont just go bad right there do they, and if i do pull the timing cover i have to take the main pulley off i got the actual pulley off right now its the mounting plate the pulley mounts to that is my problem i dont exactly know how it comes off i cant see any bolts on it and i ranked on the pulley puller and it wont budge any ideas
Remove the large bolt from the center of the damper and use a damper puller vice anything else or you will damage the damper. Some auto parts stores loan or rent these. If you just start prying or pulling on them you can pull the outer ring right off the rubber and then you gotta replace it. I would buy a new cover rather than mill the old one. Sounds like the dissimalr metal rot monster has struck again (also called electrolisis). Older engines had more problems with this that's why I now use only heavy duty (truck and industrial use) coolant.

There is a weep hole in the timing cover (it will leak between the block and timing cover) on the drivers side above the fuel pump a bit. Re-gardless of the gasket condition, this lets water out of the timing cover if its where its not supposed to be.
