I have been shopping for used 2004 Expeditions 4x4. None, or few, of the sales guys are able to tell me what the rear end installed on a particular vehicle is.
So, I decided the learn the codes. I think I have it straight.
All 2004's come with a 3.73 rear ratio. The only difference is open diff or limited slip.
I look at the label on the driver's side door jamb. If the rear axle code is X 16, the diff is open. If the code is XH 6, the diff is limited slip.
How am I doing so far?
If I am going to pay for the 4x4 stuff, I assume having a limited slip is pretty important.
Wife is gone in the Expy, so I can't confirm the door code for LS.
As for the importance of it, I wouldn't pass up my "dream" vehicle just because it's missing the factory LS. However, given the choice between two identical vehicles one with LS and one without, I'd chose the one with LS.
