Closest I've been to that was 175mph on my 93 Honda CBR900RR...back in 93. The stretch of I15 between Great Falls "International Airport" and Ulm Montana...probably wasn't quite doing the 175 the speedo read, since the bike was only rated at 164 (or thereabouts). I'm sure the rest probably fell into the "speedometer error" category.
I gotta tell ya...it was pretty exhilerating!!! I just knew I was gonna see blue lights before I got it slowed down. I was lucky...VERY lucky! It's just one of those things...I had to see how fast she'd go. I know...STUPID!!!
I never did it again after that...and traded it in on a new GoldWing a few months after that episode. The folks at the Honda shop were stunned that I'd trade a 900RR for a GoldWing - I was only 32 at the time...guess they were amazed that I was already buying an "old-man's" motorcycle.
I'd have liked to kept the CBR but back then I could only afford one toy at a time. And the Wing was SO much more comfortable for the "relaxed" riding I do most of the time. That's been about 11 years ago now and I've graduated to my softail...still would like to have both of those other bikes...actually, I'd like to have a garage full of various bikes, but wouldn't we all? (at least those of us who like bikes).
Man, that's nutts. Takes some guts though, too bad though, these people never think of the other people on the road and the possibility of killing innocent people.
WOW !!!
what's the margn of error for 4.x seconds over a quarter mile ?
seems he should have clocked him a little longer to lessen the margin of error...
I mean one twitch could have been the difference in 130 and 205 !!!

I loved my bikes for years...
swore I'd never ride on the street - only did trails, motocross, enduros, etc...
finally started riding on the street and scared myself too many times to count...
when I started worry about "Did I tighten that axle nut and put the lock pin back in?"
was when I sold them and haven't been back....
I was at an intersection waiting for the light and I saw the stupidist thing ever. A kid on a sport bike was crossing the intersection pretty fast, maybe 50 MPH, he was standing on the pegs with his hands up in the air. Kind like the titanic, "I'm the king of the world" thing. This was a constuction zone with pot holes and uneven surfaces, I wish he would have hit one of those potholes....."I'm the king of the world......with no teeth, and broken bones...."
I have seen it written that speed is relative to the number of decisions per second the driver must make. 500 mph at Bonneville might not take nearly as much focus 40mph in the Wallyworld parking lot. If these guys were in the middle of nowhere with nothing but an airplane around, what's the harm? If there were motorists, pedestrians, or houses nearby that's a different story.

Out in the middle of nowhere...the only harm is to themselves and each other.
