First of all I love my truck, check out the pics of it stuck in the mud, but there is one thing a can not stand and that is the computer controlled throttle. I hate it, hate it, hate it. Someone please make ford get rid of it and never use it again. When I hit the gas I don’t want to wait 3 seconds to feel it. That’s how you get killed. The gas pedal is the driver’s connection to the engine, thus the truck, and the road. Going through a slow fuel efficient CPU destroys this.
Ditto. I hate the new electric throttle. I'm just waiting for someone to make some sort of conversion kit that disables the electric servo and replaces it with a cable, but still maintains the elecronic sensors for proper ignition control.
The computer controlled throttle stuff has been around for a while in the expensive high end cars- but is farily new to the low market.
My dad has a 03 VW GTI- it has the computer controlled throttle and there is -0- lag. Awesome response. I test drove a 04 Mazda 6- ABSOLUTLY HORRIBLE throttle response. Makes our F150s seem like race cars compared to them...
I think it may take a little while for the factory programs to get the efficiency they want- but at the same time give the throttle responce WE want.
Just give it some time.... Or go get one of the Tuners and fix it yourself. :-)

I have a 4.6L and have never noticed a throttle delay.. I think I've read its only in the 5.4L's, right? I read somewhere that it increases fuel economy and is cheaper to use eletric than manual (cable).
...I've go the 4.6. I can feel it even under normal driving, especially when I slightly press/release the gas pedal..it's almost like the computer doesn't sense the small change. I find myself pressing more than necessary just to get a response from the truck. Granted, this is very small, but still noticable. I guess now i have an excuse as to why i "need" the Microtuner.....

Reason: spelling
I couldn't agree more. For the record I love the truck and would by it again in a minute. But I have the 4.6L and the throttle lag is horrible. 14 MPG is improved fuel economy?? I'd gladly accept 12 MPG for decent throttle response.
I've read that in a few years cars will come equipped with steering by wire. Guess we'll have to start cranking the steering wheel 3 seconds before we get to our turn. Should be interesting.

My 4.6 has no lag. Response is immediate. 6-04 build date
I Have The 4.6 And When You Press The Peddle For Passing Gear; I Have To Do It 3 Seconds Before I Pull Out To Pass Or The Vehicle In Front Will Leave Me Behind.
Since I got the PCM reflashed a month or two ago, throttle response has been OK. I'm not into burnin rubber, and when I need to accel to pass it's there. If I wanted to, I could get the tuner, but I don't think it's necessary.
I've had other fly-by-wire vehicles, so it's not a surprise how this one acts. The days of manual cables and carbs are gone for good, thanks to fuel efficiency needs, but the good thing about black-box control is that you can change it to whatever parameters you want. Me, I'm satisfied with what I have right now. BTW, it's a 5.4.
