I have a 2002 Explorer XLT with 42K miles.
I recently took it to the dealer for some problems I was having regarding some of the TSBs that have been published. Three in particular I am experiencing.
NHTSA Item Number: 10004046
Component: POWER TRAINRIVELINE
Summary:
DRIVELINE VIBRATION ON DRONE/BOOM AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TT
NHTSA Item Number: 10003176
Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
Summary:
ROUGH/ROLLING IDLE OR HESITATION AFTER FIRST STARTUP OR A ROUGH/ROLLING ENGINE SPEED WHEN RETURNING TO IDLE AFTER A SHORT TRIP. *TT
I was told by the dealer that FORD would not assist in the repairs and that to have it done would be roughly $2400 out of pocket cost.
I am less than 10K over the 36K warrenty period, and would have expected some help with the repair costs.
My question is, have I reached a dead end, or is there some other avenue worth pursuing.
you can try calling the 1800 number and talk with them...maybe they will agree to take half off or something...but most places stick to their warrenty and when it runs out its gone...a TSB isn't a recall so Ford doesn't have to do anything unless you complain about it, then they look in their computer and find these TSB's that tell them whats wrong.
I'm assuming you weren't experiencing these problems before the warranty period was up? But if in fact you were, and have documented proof, you may have a case. Good luck.
