I have 68 F100 3 speed I have been experiancing problems down shifting. Sometimes I have to come to a complete stop and move shifter maybe in reverse then in 2nd or 3rd or maybe disengage clutch to get it to downshift into 1st. I don't seem to have any problem starting off and going 1,2,3rd just down shifting and not all the time. The truck has 150,000 miles I've owned for11 years and have never had any work done on clutch or trans. It's my daily driver so any help would be appreciated .thanks
Maybe the linkage needs to be adjusted. I never cared for the 3 on the tree shifters. One improvent would be to install a floor shifter but your seat would probably get in the way.
first check your clutch adjustment, and then check you fluid level and condition. trans should have 90w gear oil in it, old gear oil will cause problems as will the wrong gear oil. you might also try a gear lube additive such as lucas.

I had a hurst shifter on the floor when i had my 3spd in my 69. I have the bench seat and it did not interfere with shifting or clearance.
It doesn't sound all that good. I recently had the same condition on mine, it was the 1st gear synchronizer. Ended up with another tranny. Found one for $50, so it wasn't too bad. One way to check before you pull it is to pull the drain plug out of the bottom of it, if it's pretty clean, then it might be something else. If it's got metal on it, or looks like silver paint, then you may be in for a rebuild or replace. Good luck.
I did check fluid level and did have to add about 12oz. of lucas fluid I don't know what weight it was but it was thick , the guy at the parts store highly recommend it also . but it didnt help the hard shifting problem. I didnot remove the drain plug but i will this weekend to see if theres any metal particles, thats what i'm afraid of. I have been thinking about the floor shifter for a while I just hated to do away with the original column shifter , but with the age and mileage it may not be a bad idea. The clutch adj. i was'nt sure about . do I back off the jam nut and leave 1/4" space between the cone shaped nut and the release lever or is it more to it than this? Also if i have to rebuild, what can i expect it to cost if i take out and reinstall and let someone rebuild on bench? One other ? if i have to rebuild is there any other things i should check or up grade since i'm removing tranny anyway? thanks for the replys already.
