Need some help; F350 2011 SRW LB 4x4. I experiencing what I call a false shift. This usually happens in town driving and occurs when shifting from 3rd to 4th. I fell the shift, look down at the indicators and I am still in 3rd. Shortly thereafter, maybe 2 or 3 seconds, I get the shift to 4th gear and it is reflected by the dash. This happens when the transmission is cold or warm. My build date is 09/30/2010 and I have the latest flash. Any help or insight would be appreciated.
We've been calling this the half shift.
It's when the torque converter locks and it's normal but I don't notice it all of the time.
It also depends on acceleration.
Most of the time it will lock in 3rd gear under normal driving conditions.
this sounds the same as my problem. ill be in 3rd gear, it will drop like 100 rpms and feel like it shifts but doesnt, like 2 seconds later it will drop rpms again and finally go to 4th. i highly doubt this is normal especially because it never happened when i first bought the truck. does this sound similar to what you have going on?
did you have the flash done?? there was a flash that came out in april. although my dealer claimed it didn't apply to my truck, why do they act so dumb?? anyways they did it to my truck anyway at least according to them. my shifting issues are GONE, have not had a neutral shift when taking off and my shifts are way way smoother. the warm weather did almost make the skipped shift go away, so the true test is this winter when it cools off, but it looks good so far.

Where did you get your flash done? (Which dealer?)

it was ken garrf in american fork, same place I bought the truck from. the service dept. is ok I suppose, but it would be refreshing if they didn't play so dumb, especially when they are talking to an educated customer. besides isn't the customer the number one person they should talk to when diagnosing a repair?? I had them also do a front end alignment, my truck had 15k on it so the alignment charge was on me, which kinda irritated me. I was going to take it back to them because it was still pulling pretty bad, rotated the tires and the problem went away. its the aweful sucky terrible general tires the truck came with, note to anyone NEVER buy general tires.
Hi guys Have a may 2010 built, with 102000km on it, I was having the "lazy Shift" too, a quick trip to the dealer in Athabasca, 10 minutes on the lap top and it is shifting perfect again.
Don
I had this problem once in a while when my truck was still cold. I got my truck back 3 days ago for a DEF fill mistake that I made with Diesel fuel. While the truck was in there I told the mechanic about the problem I was having and they found TSB 11-7-10. On the invoice it shows listed as build date before 11-19-2010. So they removed the transmission pan and replaced 3 faulty solenoids (invoice shows Replace all three normally high solenoids with correct band ID number, Reprogram PCM and TCM and clear KAM). The truck is now shifting so smooth and on the third day now and have not noticed any missed shifts, wow what a difference.
After talking to the mechanic he said that the solenoids have been updated with a new design. So far so go.
I was having that half shift problem after the dealer replaced all internal components of 4-6 gears. Also was having shift flares 4-6 after dealer rebuilt tranny. After a couple of days with the truck, the dealer determined that the TC was bad and replaced it. That was in August and the truck has been shifting flawlessly since. I have towed my 14,000# 5'er several times and this truck continues to shift great.
