Predator shifting

Received my Predator about 10 days ago and love the change in power but......am having a harsh shifting problem between 1 and 2 when on it hard. Not to mention you know it's harsh when your wife tells you about it. Driving normal it operates great just like stock. This is happening in the 65HP mode. The 45HP shifts great. I was afraid to try the 100 in that the truck is in stock trim. Anyone had this situation? Oh the software it the latest 34f I believe.

how many miles did you put on it?

mine got better with about 600 miles on it.
had to put the factory program back in last week to go back to dealer, and put it back in as soon as i got it back and it's like learning to walk again

Installed it twice. Total mileage about 1200. I thought that it might learn to shift better with time but it doesn't seem to.

You may be the first person to say that about the predator.... really...
early revisions had a 2 to 3 or 3 to 4 shift "pause" like all the other tuners, but the r34c revision fixed that...

what version does it show when you first plug it in ???

maybe you should unload the predator,
disconnect both batteries for a bit...
then follow the battery removal learning process as shown in your manual....
then reload the predator... and drive it easy for 4 or 5 start cycles...
your tranny may be confused

Now I can MAKE mine shift hard if I want to....
accelerate "briskly" from a stop... and just before the 1 to 2 shift point, let off the throttle about 1/2 then punch it again... the tranny is trying to figure out what I am doing as if to say "What the Hey are u doing?" and will think I want a firm shift for the high hp throttle setting...
I can chirp the tires if I force it to...

but without trying to fool the tranny it shifts SUPER...
at easy throttle, it shifts as soft as stock....
at HEAVY throttle, it shifts crisp and quick, which is needed when it's going thru the gears so quick at wot.....I'd say let's eliminate the obvious first and you'll be a happy camper like the rest of us

JD you are correct about being able to cause a harsh shift by letting off and confusing things. I did the battery disconnect and didn't notice much difference. This unit is loaded with 34f so based on your info it should operate well. As I mentioned it does shift great in the 45hp mode. Talked to the techs. and the wanted me to try both the 45 and 100 and get back to them. What do you think about a short run at the 100hp setting considering no exhaust or EGT gauge. Don't spank me I live in Punta Gorda Fl. and all the spare money is going into the house fix up presently. I'm going out right now and give it another try and see if it's maybe a slow learner. Thanks.

Running it unloaded for a while will be just fine. Some here would like to make you think the truck will self-destruct if you don't have gauges; they are only a precautionary measure. As long as you don't plan on doing extended 130 mph top end runs, you will be just fine. Just don't hook any weight behind it.

After running it again flat out a few times it seem to be shifting better. Maybe it's a slow learner like the owner. You mentioned the little hitch when shifting between 2 and 3. What's that about. I seem to have a little....no big deal just curious. Thanks again and I'll try the 100hp setting when I get her back from the dealer. Truck has some kind of harmonic rattle sound in the exhaust that goes away if you hold or put pressuer on the tail pipe. Nothing loose that I could find anyway. Thank for your help.

The rattle will be a hanger touching either the rear leaf spring or frame. If any of the hangers are even CLOSE to anything, torch the tips or hacksaw the ends off. It took about 2 hours to get all the rattles out of mine.

That's good news 1gary !!!
Cuz I want others to have just as good of service out of their predator as I do....

the 2 to 3 shift was a big problem (and still is for some) with any tuners/modules for the longest time....
I know because I researched them all... and until the predator came out you had to know when it should shift into 3rd and lift a second to allow it to....

with the predator I have been to the drags in full launch and full throttle and had PERFECT full power shifts and also in easy driving had soft shifts...

*********************************************
glad it's getting there for you...
sorta like recomending a restaurant as good
and you go there and get burnt food served by the biggest jerk ever

*******************************
how about this...
tell your dealership to install a turbo back system instead of fixing the rattles !!!
that's what I have on my X and the predator acts just right with it !!!!
