When I bought my X new in 2001, it didn't come with heated seats. With the winter season and maybe a few long drives around the corner, heated seats are becoming more and more appealing. First and foremost, is my X prewired for heated seats? Lastly, would my dealer be able to install some seats (same seats as the ones for that model year) with the heated function?
I looked into buying the heated/cooled Navigator seats. I don't know about wiring (although aparently they contain their own computer and draw (max) 10A), but junkyards in the US sell them for about $250 each.
Based on the wiring diagram, the seats should be pre-wired. If you do buy seats make sure they have the heated seat module, it will connect to the wire harness.
Thanks for your responses so far. While I'm positive that the Excursion comes pre-wired for this, a guy in the parts deparment said they were only wired for what was ordered. In this case, mine didn't come with heated seats, therefore, according to my dealer, I'm not pre-wired. However; I do have my doubts. To me it makes more sense to compensate for something later, instead of not compensating for it at all. (I.E. pre-wiring.)
In addition to the above stated, the parts department said I'm better off finding a wrecked Excursion in a junkyard. My response to that was: "you don't see too many of those things wrecked." So I'm out of luck unless someone knows where I can pick up these seats for a good price.
I know you may have thought of this but to make things a bit easier on you....there are heated seat "pads" that you can put on top of the seat. Not only will your fanny get warm but also your back. It plugs into your lighter or powerpoint.
When not in use, just put them in your garage. Not as integrated but if your goal is not to freeze your **** off and keep some money in your pocket, these may be just the ticket. That; or move to Hawaii. My fanny never gets cold...
Here's a link to help you get started if you choose this route.
One difference with the Navigator seats (which I suggested above) is that they use a little heatpump and had a "cooling" function as well as a heating function. This is a beautiful thing on a long drive.
Yeah... the cooling/heating function is provided by a little peltier junction. It blows cool or warm air through little holes in the seat surface _and_ the seat back.
I believe the the x would be wired already because it would be to expensive to have a diferent wiring harnes fo each truck instead of just plugging in the options
When I bought my Dakota it didn't come with seat heaters, and the stealership wanted $2k for them! Luckily I found this forum and bought two kits from HeaterSeats.com for $160. At first I had trouble installing the kits because I'm not the greatest mechanic but they have a great installation manual and 7 days a week support staff to help me out. Now my Dakota has heated seats, a luxury item everyone should have for an affordable price. If you guys have questions about the installation, let me know as I am pretty experienced with their product.
