I'm not really a big fan of the Dodge Dart's either but they are durable cars and they last a long time, you still see some of those around.

Egad! Now that brings back a bad memory! When my 55 Panel got stolen, I was outta wheels and my brother had this old Dart..slant six, all beat to death, no grill, wrinkle finish, cracked windshield....UGLY UGLY UGLYYYYY..... and I had to drive it for what seemed like an eternity, until my panel was located...stripped and on her belly in the woods. At least it wasn't burned! Took me a while to get her going again, so I was stuck with the dart from Hades.

I agree with the slant 6 Darts and Valiants being a durable car, but so were the old mid 60's Falcons and Comets. Several people in my extended family owned these with great results. They lasted well, and got great mileage to boot. I had a neighbor who had a old 6 banger Nova that went over 300,000 miles before being retired. The most miles I ever heard of anybody putting on a car though, was my Grandmother's mid 60's Studebaker Lark 4 door. It too was a 6 cylinder, and she put nearly 500,000 miles on that car, with no overhaul or major repair. It made me wonder why that company went out of business.

I'll have to go with the 1960's Mopars. One of the guys here at work still drives his 1970 Plymouth Road Runner to work and his wife still drives her 1969 Dart. They are the original owners. My grandfather drove a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere, 318 and Torqueflite, for twenty years with no major repairs.
The big GM cars from 1965-1966, like the Bonneville, DeVille, and Impala, were and are, some of the best looking cars of all time, but not as durable as the ugly Mopars.
American quality really started downhill about 1972, so in this survey, the closer to 1965, the better.

Friend of mine had a 73 Eldorado convertable 501 motor. That thing was surprisingly quick for such a heavy car. Not to mention, it was front wheel drive to boot.
