There is no hope for you to be sucessful with this work - If your '86 has a points distributor, someone has torn out the original ignition system and who knows what else has been removed. There is a whole host of sensors, wires and connections to be made to reinstall the '87 ignition system.

You would be much better off trying to install a pre '84 Duraspark II package ignition or a MSD or a DUI package.

Sorry, but that's the way it looks.

Talking thanks for the info

thanks for the info .i checked with both local part stores.they said it would cost 300.00 just for the parts for a pre 84 duraspark dist and module.i will have to hope the points dist will last a while longer.i also dont know to hook any of it up .the part stores dont know either.this truck is a 86 with a 78 300/6.that is the way i bought the truck.all the factory 86 wiring is still in the truckincluding the computer.i havent been able to find a 86 wiring diagram.i wanted a list of the sensors and how to hook them up .
thank you

$300 is crap about the duraspark system. NAPA has a rebuilt distributor for $60.00 and a replacement control module is about $20 and you can go to the wrecking yard and get a harness for about $10.00. That's all you need and it's all plug-in - set the timing and you're driving.

Check with a local NAPA (Or look on NAPA web site) for the dizzy and any advance or autozone will have the module. You'll have to look for a local junk yard for the harness. Any Duraspark ignition harness will work look on ford cars and trucks from about '75 to '84.

Hope this helps.

Talking napa store in tucumcari says 300.00

the nape store in my town says 300.00.the local junkyard doesnt have any of the wiring harnessess that you are talking about.in the town i live in if it is more than 10 years parts arent around.imnot making any of this up .i have lived here for 7 years and older parts are very hard to get .and ford says if it is more than 10 years old they dont know anything about it .i should have stayed in alaska .

Try www.rockauto.com. I've ordered from them several times with a debit card over the phone and they've always had parts to my door in two days. Under a hundred bucks for distributor (there's a $30 core charge...) and a module combined. Look under ignition for, lessee, '79 F250 4.9, ( you want the single-vac. dizzy)...

Talking arizona just made a big problem

im moving to phoenix in january.the arizona emmissions board says that i have to put everything that came with the 86 f250 back on .i have a 87 tfi dist .the computer is still in the truck it still works.im using efi exhaust manifolds with the o2 hole in the manifold.i have to use a different head because of the air pump.i have a 93 head that should work.i built a homemade thermactor air cleaner.i could not find a used stock air cleaner.i found a charcoal cannister.but they say i have to use the tfi dist .but i still cant find a 86 engine wiring diagram to figure out where the other wires go .im going to use a high perf cat .
sorry for all the confusion i was trying to make it pass the visual test as cheap as possible.
arizona emmissions board are just stupid

Damm - get with the 20th century - you got to have at least a checking account - If you had a credit/debit card you could order all your parts over the internet and have them send directly to your door. You can't be too old school - you are on the computer - Look on Autozone's web site and they have a repair and diagonistic section that has wiring diagrams. You can also get a Chiltons or Haynes manual that has wiring diagrams.

Talking already have a no information chiltons

the only income is disability.mine a shattered rotator that i cant afford to get fixed.my disability income is too low for plastic or a debit also i dont want a checking account.i like things simple a savings account works just fine.i have a no information chiltons book part #6913 it doesnt have a 86 under the hood wiring diagram that i need.i tryied to get a wiring diagram from ford no luck they say that it is too old .as for auto zone in clovis which is 90 miles away they said no luck too old.also it seems nobody has the information i need so that means i have to junk another truck.without the wiring information i cant make my 86 pass the arizona emmissions .i have 3500.00 in this truck.what a waste
trying to be a happpy dinosaur.
i have another ford truck a 71 f250 but it needs a new wiring harness no luck finding one had to park it .it was a good truck even if it had a 390 in it .
have a nice high tech day

If you can get me a FAX telephone number, I can fax you a wiring diagram out of my Haynes manual. It's a factory type diagram that showes all the components and color of wire to each connection. Also, Is your truck carburated or fuel injected.

If you don't have access to a FAX, go to my profile and send me a personal message with your address and I'll mail you a copy.
