Fuel filter(s) are always a good thing to replace. I would pull codes and make sure your TFI module is not going.

Did the filter replacement solve your problem? I have the same hesitation on my 1989 Ford Bronco II with the 2.9L. I'm thinking about investing in $1MM worth of sensors, starting with the MAP. But, I live in Ecuador, so I have to have them brought in. Any help?

Before you replace any sensors pull the codes.

#41 HEGO Sensor circuit indicates system lean (I agree with this)
#74 Brake On/Off circuit failure/not actuated during test

I think it's running lean, and I wonder if it's the MAP or throttle position sensor. I'll check voltage on the TP this week.

When you're troubleshooting codes, it's best to start with the KOEO codes. That means it's time to check the MAP sensor/circuit. 1st thing to do with any trouble code is to check the wiring between the given component and the computer. In the case of the MAP sensor, also check the vacuum hose between the MAP and the manifold. Beyond that, I haven't had to deal with a MAP sensor code, so check with Ken00 for a proper circuit "pinpoint" test.

MAP and Struggling Engine

Thanks, Mr. Shorty. I have a sneaky suspicion that it's fuel supply, and today I'll be checking the Shrader valve for air vs. gasoline at the injectors. I've gotten some great advice on another thread, so I'll try those items and the MAP soon. I'll post the results.
