I have a 93 Explorer and I have no sound. I know it isn't the radio because I bought a new one and I still have no sound. I believe it might be something to do with the amp but I am not sure.
do you have premium sound? If so, did you bypass the amp or are you trying to send speaker level outputs into the amp? If you have a new radio, you will have to bypass the amp or have an adapter to allow the rca output into amp.
How do I know if I have premium sound? I took back the radio that I bought becasue the stock radio works. One day the sound was working and the next it quit.
So let me get this straight. Your factory radio works but you can't get an aftermarket radio to work? If this is the case then you prob. have premium sound. All you have to do is hook up your amp turn on wire from your aftermarket deck (should be blue wire) to your amp wire in your factory harness. And then it will work. I don't care what anyone else says about having to bypass the amp. You don't have to! It will work if you hook up your amp turnon up the the factory one.

Did you check the fuses? Or for loose wires in the factory harness? I had a 91 with the premium sound and I believe one of the plugs was long and flat and the other one was square. Can't remember for sure but it sounds right. Do you have power to the radio? Does it turn on?
I'm having the same basic problem on my Explorer. When I bought it, it had an aftermarket stereo in it, and the PO kept that. I got a factory AM/FM/cassette player, and popped that in. The radio lights up, all the contriols on the radio work, but NO sound. Everything is hooked up on the radio...is there an inline fuse to the amp in back? Ideas?
Well I do have premium sound. The stereo comes on and everything is okay there it just doesn't put out any sound. I don't think it is a fuse because the radio works fine.
You still may have a blown fuse to the amp. I would def. check that out. This might be another long shot but, If the person you bought it from had an aftermarket stereo in it before you bought it they might have bypassed the amp. And I would guess that if it has an amp your deck might not actually have any power output of it's own and that's why you're not getting any sound. So you might have to unhook the bypass that's on the amp and plug it back in the way it's supposed to be. Don't know but it sounds good! Unless you have a loose wire in your harness somewhere or maybe the deck you got is shot.
