i have a 4-core radiator i want to replace the old 2-core in my bronco with, problem is all of the inlets and outlets are switched around. if i had the money to remove the engine driven fan and slap in an electric one hose location wouldnt be a problem cause i wouldnt have to worry about keepin them away from the fan. also the trans cooler lines are on the opposite side from stock, but i also pulled the lines from the donor truck so that will not be a prob.
the question is, has anyone done this and how difficult was it to run all of the hoses? im pretty sure the only way to get radiator hoses that are long enough and are bent in just the right places is order one of the expensive ones that you can bend yourself.
The Super Cooling radiator that came on trucks with the tow package option should drop right in, no differences. I swapped the four core from my 92 into my 93 and there were no differences in hose or cooler line locations. Had to swap the shroud as well 'cause the shroud for the 2 core would never have fit. Not sure what radiator you got your hands on there. In short its a mystery to me as to why there would be so many differences to compensate for.
Sounds like you've gotten a radiator out of a 460 pickup or something. You should call around to a radiator shop or two. Most good shop think nothing of swapping the outlets around and should know exactly what you're talking about. They can even transplant two-core end tanks onto the four-core center IF the radiators are of the same basic design. Though I've seen where people have had this done, usually on some sort of custom car, I haven't done it myself. I don't know how much they are likely to charge for such work. A couple of phone calls are pretty cheap though.
Good luck!
thanks fellas. on the original in the bronco the cap is on the drivers side, as is the lower hose, while the top hose is on the passenger side, also the trans cooler lines are on the drivers side. all of these are opposite on my new one.
ive had the swap in mine, and it lookes stock, with the exception of the size of its lol. and i dont think ive ever come close to over heating. but the guy who owend the truck befor me is the one who had it done, and the one he got was an exact match as far as the hose's and stuff go. o and ur gonna need a thernastat that goes a but higher or u wont have any heat in the winter. i tryed a 195 and i froze my but off all winter lol. so i just say look around or do what gypsyR said
The more you describe it, the more it sounds like you have a radiator for a newer Bronco. Do you have a serpentine belt or several "V" belts that drive the accessories? It almost sounds like the radiator you have is for a truck with a serpentine belt. The major difference in the serpentine as opposed to the "V" belt motors is that the water pump runs the other direction with a serpentine belt which could account for the differences in hose location due to a different flow direction.
that makes sense, i pulled it from a 90's model truck with a 460 in a junk yard, then i used in in my 86 that had an inline siall of it matched up with that truck) now that the inline six is trash im going to stick it in the bronco
