Does anybody know how to disable/remove the marquee screensaver (the one that scrolls a message across the screen) on windows 2000? One of my co-workers is always leaving anoying messages with this screensaver, and its really starting to tick me off. I can't use a password because it is used by many people. I could just tell him to stop it, but what would be the fun in that
I know how to get to it and change it, ect. But I wan't to actually remove it from the list of screensavers, or otherwise disable it so it can't be used.
MMC will pop up add console --> Look for Group Policy and click OK -- click close
You will now have the Group Policy editor for the local machine in front of you.
Expand User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Control Panel --> Display
You will now have the computer display policies for regular users You will see somthing like Activate Screen Saver, Disable Screen Saver etc. You can disable the screen saver completely, or set it to the one you want and not allow changes, etc. I don't know exactly what you want to do, but you get the idea. Just remember the policy will apply to all users of the system.
Another way would be to go into the C:\winnt\system32 directory and rename file ssmarque.scr to ssmarque.old.
It should then be disabled from the list of screen savers.
Sounds like of involved, not sure if I wan't to do that. I might get the guys at the MIS dept. ticked off for messing with the admistrative settings. Anyway, I'll keep it in mind as a last resort. Thanks, Juan.
edit:
thanks kingfish, that sounds a little simpler.
