power brake booster

My wife has a '01 Escape XLT V6. We have notice a whinning noise coming from the power brake booster. The noise goes away when the brakes are applied. Does anyone know if the booster is going bad, or if there is a leak in the vacuum and it can be fixed rather than replacing it completely.

Hi Jang and welcome to the forum

Brake boosters are sealed units and generally cant be repaired so I think you're stuck with buying a new one.
