power brake booster

i have a question about my power brake booster i just turned my truck off and heard a hissing noise coming from it and i think it was the booster. How can I check it or is that hissing the sound the booster makes when it has died? thanks for your help.

thanks for the reply i dont have a hard pedal there is just a air leaking sound what could it be?

It sounds like a vacuum leak from the booster. Check to make sure the vacuum hose going to it is in place and not cracked. Are the brakes working properly?
