I dip copenhagen evry once in awhile, and I smoke. If dip doesn't have any kind of abrasive materials in it, what is it that makes your lip raw after dipping a can? And don't say "cause ur not used to it". I'm not used to having a piece of chewing gum in my mouth either, but after I chew a pack of wrigleys I dont have a raw mouth.
ok, does it reeeally matter if it has fiberglass or not? i do it, i have no problems with it, im gonna keep doin it, its really not tearing my lip up that bad. if youre that concerned but still wanna do it, go with a fine cut, its smoother. what rips you up is the longer grains in the long cut. whenever you move your mouth, it creates friction, whatevers between your lip and gum, if it has even the slightest amount of coarsness, if it rubs around enuf its gonna agitate your gumline
I started dipping when I was 15 it made me dizzy too.I dipped copenhagen fine cut, long cut, black, skoal longcut straight they all made me dizzy no matter what.
Then I started chewing levi garret when I turned 18 same thing made me dizzy. But now I smoke cigars black and milds, hava tampa jewels, and swisher sweets and they don't make me dizzy I love them.
"thats the difference between people who get cancer and those who dont. as long as you keep up your oral hygeine ull be ok..."
While oral hygeine can reduce risks of cancer, I believe it's because poor oral hygeine increases cancer risk by itself (not including tobacco use). Show me some proof and I'll retract my doubts.
CAUTION: don't read if you don't want a lecture:
While a very small % can use tobacco regularly w/o getting addicted, chances are your not one of them(in fact it's probably too late). I'll bet most every smoker/dipper on this site started out using it "every once in a while" and intended to keep it at that.
I understand not wanting a lecture, but when someone asks why something makes you sick, people are probably gonna say not to do it. Are there any people w/ decade+ long tobacco addictions who are glad they started? The paranoia of cancer later in life just isn't worth it. Trust me. Then again, I didn't listen, why would anyone else?
Funny story about chewin'. Back in H.S. on the ballfield we had a freshman shortstop that thought he could hang with the big boys. One of the other seniors, a pitcher, chewed Redman with grape Big League Chew. The combination is awesome. Anyways the kid wanted some. We told him he would get sick and he said "NO I WON'T". He proceeded to take a pinch, not just a little pinch, and stuffed it into his cheek. Not two seconds later this kid was turning colors I had never seen before. Needless to say he didn't feel very well for a few days after.
Chew or dip if you want to. It is your body. My best friend now has Lymphoma. I used to but not anymore. Don't mean to lecture, just stating experience.
well, like most people i started when i was in middle school sometime, around 8th grade i believe. Chewed pretty much nothing but Copenhagen Long Cut or Snuff until i was 18 and then i quit, it was kinda hard, i chewed a lot fo gum but im glad i did it, if not only for my health but for the money it is saving me! Never had the problem with getting sick though, but alot of my buddies sure did lol. But anyways the way i look at it it, if you enjoy it, don't quit for anyone else, only if you want to, ya know what i mean? because youre just going to miss it all that much more.
I just quit dipping a tin of Cope a day for years,(I started as an apprentice Ironworker) and man the extra bucks in my wallet are worth it. Up here in MA a tin of cope is $7. I don't really miss it that much, but it has only been 2 mos.....so far so good.
Ummm, they make organic pesticides from tobacco. Not sure why humans put it in their bodies.
Nicotine -- Botanical insecticide. Pure nicotine is a tobacco extract highly toxic to warm-blooded animals. The insecticide usually is marketed as a 40% liquid concentrate of nicotine sulfate, which is diluted in water and applied as a spray. Dusts can irritate the skin and are not normally available for garden use. Nicotine is used primarily for piercing-sucking insects such as aphids, whiteflies, leafhoppers and thrips. Nicotine is more effective when applied during warm weather. It degrades quickly, so can be used on many food plants nearing harvest. It is registered for use on a wide range of vegetable and fruit crops.
Of course, alcohol is toxic, too, but we know why humans put it in their bodies.
Hey RangerEd, I quit in a similar way. I just imagined I had an upset stomach every time i smoked, it worked, and after a short time of this I didn't even want one anymore. After 5 (I believe) attempts to quit previously, this was the only thing that has worked permanetly (well so far anyway/one day at a time ). It's worked for a few friends also.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been a once in a while dipper for 8 years now. I might buy a tin of Cope for a few days, then not buy another for a month or more. Just depends on what is going on pretty much.
Careful there, Theo, you might make some of those rednecks sick from ingesting too much common sense.
... Now I don't smoke and I don't chew or dip. I've got too much around me and too many good people to live for.
I quit smokin' in 86 'cause some quack told me I had emphysema...turns out he was wrong (after all the test results came back about a month after the diagnosis). I'd been quit for a month, so I figured i didn't need it anymore...Yeehaw!!! That quack did me a HUGE favor!
