SO far so good with my truck. I love it! However, when I went to make a very quick merge onto the freeway this morning, I had about a 1-2 second delay between my flooring the gas and the truck reving up. It was like the computer was trying to figure out just how far I had actually pushed it before it even did anything. It was almost dangerous how long it took. Is this a common problem? I don't regularly floor it, but when you need to, I would expect the power to be there in a blink of an eye like the old carburated engines, not with a delay. I must have looked stupid because I had leaned forward thinking the acceleration would throw me back again, and I almost touched the steering wheel with my chest! I'm not sure I like the fly-by-wire throttle system....any help?

I laughed out loud over the mental picture of leaning forward waiting for the boost! I'd have done the same thing.
As for the delay, I thought I noticed something similar once or twice but it certainly was not 1-2 sec. Somewhere more like .5 sec or less. I chalked it up to the computer just getting settled in with the rest of the truck. If I were you I'd try to repeat it under similar conditions, but obviously one that would not put you in danger. I have read a lot about others who have "flashed" their computer. Might want to check that w/ the dealer if it happens again.
Yeah, i've read about re-flashing the computer as well, but how hard is it just to get them to do that without them having to take the truck forever to "test" for the problem. Could I just request they do that?
When I bought my 2004 SCREW, they told me there was a TSB to flash the computer for a throttle delay. I would take it to the dealer. It shouldn't take just a few minutes to do!
If you're experiencing the problem, I would hope they would look into it. That could be a real safety problem if there's a delay before the throttle responds. What if you were sitting on a train track and you had a 2 sec. delay
I bet if you ask they'll look into it. Best wishes!
yes right now i am renting one i have had it for 10 days and i have only positive things to say on this truck 5.4 4 door f-150 15,900 miles on it . i have exprienced this throttle deley merging into traffic i was traveling around 25-30 mph floored it ,leaned nothing! SCARY well it has not done it since about 5 days ago i just havent had to expect from the truck in that cirrcumstance again. i have promply been pretty hard on the truck and i am thinking about trading in the ranger .......
I just had my truck reflashed today and I must say it made a HUGE difference from before. My production date was 02-04 and supposedly the latest flash in from June/July? You might want to visit you local Ford dealer and tell them that your truck has very poor response and thay should have no problem hooking it to their computer to check for updated calibration. The part number of the latest calibration is 4L3A-12A650-APE. Hope this helps.
Wow, I can't believe you guyz are having throttle lag. my Baby Barks the tires if I give her the gas. very responsive attitude! my truck was built in Dearborn and I guess one of the few that made it through for the 04 models. I'm guessin that it had to be updated with the latest flash before leaving the factory. I'm not hesitant to show it to those Hemi's and Titans too. she's definately proven that a couple times already when challenged at stoplights or jockeying for position through the city. She's Awesome!

I had mine re-flashed today and I cannot tell the difference. I'm not impressed with the 04 power. I am impressed with many other features however. The power is my only beef.
