heh, apparently those bolts break really easily, but others on our trucks do not. I've been trying for 2 days to break off the bolt on the rear leaf spring hanger. I've used a steel cutter and an air hammer to no avail. If the head would just break off like the water pump bolts, I could punch it through and replace it. stupid bolts.
I know exactly what you mean, I went to ford and they wanted to charge 19.95 for the one that I broke. What I did was go to my friend's mechanic shop and ask if he had anything laying around. I was lucky enough to find 2 of the three I needed there. For the third one, I went by the scrap yard and found an engine laying on the ground that had the bolts I needed. I was lucky. Try going to the scrap yard, that might be your best bet.
I went to NAPA and got some grade 8 bolts the same length. I hope it works, the one on the drivers side with the Power Steering Pump/AC compressor bracket allignment pin is the only one that concerns me. I dont think this really holds anything though because there are 3 big bolts holding the bracket to the pump. I guess I will find out.
ARP has the bolt set, but they were like $50 when I checked.
The thing that bugs me about this is that its not like we are working on a 1928 Buggitti. Isnt Fords saying something like "Americas #1 selling truck"
Theres nothing attached to the other end of the bolts though, There are at least two bolts with threads sticking out on the passengers side, but there is nothing attached, there are threads on both ends but I cant figure out why. I went to my 68 'stang and pulled out a couple of bolts, same size, just a little shorter.
why would u take out the shroud to do a water pump???? u remove the fan and lay it carefully in the shroud then remove pump
geez
Shroud is only 2 bolts, its nice to have it out of the way. Especially mine because a bunch of bolts broke and I had to pull the Harmonic Balancer to get the timing cover off.
Heat is your friend. Before you break off the water pump bolts slowly heat the block where the long bolts attach. I broke off one before I tried heat. I was able to get vice grips on it after removing timing cover. Then tried a little heat while rocking bolt back and forth. Replaced it with 5/16 all thread and locktite on a nut for the bracket alignment bolt.
