Are you taking it off to clean, or just spraying the cleaner down the intake? If so, just take off the intake hoses and spray for a few seconds, then let it idle ofr a few seconds. Don't spray inot it without the truck running. If you're taking it apart, reomve the electrical conn., the vacuum tubes, and the raidator hoses, then the four bolts holding it to the intake. You can clean it a lot beter this way. I also took the TPS and IAC off as well as I replaced them at the same time. This way you can use a toothbrush and get in all those holes. I used a carb/throttle body cleaner, so I would assume their the same. It's not hard, took me about an hour.

im not sure if i had a touch of bad luck or what, when i went to clean my throttle body, had it off the truck and assembled it all together, then i had a high idle, for some reason the IAC sensor went bad????

I just want to spray down the intake. So take off intake hoses, leave truck idling and spray right? I heard that i will see some white smoke out of the exhaust, is that true? Thanks for replys.

Sounds like my kind of luck. That's why I just replaced it. Cleanign didnt' seem to help my rough idle at all, though.

That is exactly what happened to me. I took of the throttle body to fix a broken coolant line. While it was off, I cleaned it with TB cleaner. When I put it back on, I had (and still have) a high idle. I checked evrything I could think of. I am going to try a new IAC today and an O2 sensor as well. Both have 150k on them and are probably due for a change anyway.

I have heard from other posts and forums that cleaning the throttle body with a harsh cleaner such as carb/TB cleaner can eat away the IAC seal.
Take care not to hit the hole for the IAC while cleaning it out, unless the TB is that much different from my 5.8L

On my throttle body, I noticed a sticker that even warned me of not cleaning it

Okay, today I replaced the IAC and O2 sensor. No real change in the idle, but the rough idle seems to have smoothed out.

Now I get a code for the coolant temperature sensor out of range. Can this affect the idle? When I unplugged it, the idle jumped to 2k rpm. I'm sure the coolant sensor needs replacing, it too has 150K miles on it. I'll replace it, I'm sure it's not too expensive. (compared to the $85- IAC!)

I just read here at FTE that someone used carb. cleaner, with all the parts removed. Reinstalled it and then had to replace some sensors.Just my 2 cents. Throttle body cleaner should be at any small parts store. i live in the middle of no wheres, and i found some. Was the truck running bad, is that why you cleaned it?

Cleaned it today with an 'Air Intake Cleaner'. Its for throttle body. It got rid of the hesitation, now when i step on the gas it goes instead of the 1-3 second hesitation. It was pretty dirty. Also at stops or idling (when warm) it would almost stall. Not anymore
