Unhappy ATS turbo engine pipe

Has anybody had the engine pipe off one of these on a 7.3idi. have all attaching parts off but see no bolts holding pipe to outlet housing. Am doing headgasket job and this is my stumbling block.
Thanks

The factory downpipe will come out with some finessing and some bad words. It should be a press in fit to the turbine housing. Some wd40, wiggle and pulling should get it out, unless it has a clamp on it where it comes off the turbine housing.
Found this in another post from builder12 Hope this helps,

Mine was held in place by a spring only...Yep a single spring attached to a spot on the headpipe and up around the turbo someplace (it's been about 9 years so my memory is not too good)

When the frame started to rack while wheeling the headpipe would come out a bit now and then and was kinda noisy but the spring sucked it back into place as soon as you straightened out. Don't know if they ever changed that design and was the only thing I can say bad about that system.

Yes, that was the original way they held the down pipe in. They thought it was a selling point. It made it that much easier to remove for tranny replacement. They have since gone to a solid piece of 1/4" steel (with a 1/4 twist) that bolts from one of the exhaust flange studs to the pipe bracket. That must be one of the original ATS kits, I've put them on for 10 years and I've never seen one with the spring.

Thanks for your help spetramac. This unit has a 1/4 " plate with the 90degree twist, pipestill won't move ,there is also a slot head screw facing forward on the flange , is this a lock? I am considering cutting the pipe a few inches below turbo and using a 3" straight lap clamp to reassemble. I also wondered about unbolting outlet housing along with waste gate from turbo and leaving pipe inplace while I do headgasket job. Are gaskets/orings readily available for these ATS systems? Should I order a kit for a 94 7.3idi turbo to get better gaskets. What do you think.

Thanks a bunch Jamie

I never saw one with the screw in it. Look it over and try to determine if the screw is actually holding the pipe in place. If it appears so, remove it. If it doesnt look like it may be holding the pipe, try wiggling it. Sometimes the carbon does make it a tight fit.
I wouldnt remove the turbine housing.

I ended up cutting pipe w/air hacksaw (limited space) After pulling off R cylinder head found crack in fire ring of head gasket of NO 1. No wear in cylinders ,still see the crosshatch, not even a carbon ridge. Will send heads to machine shop to check over and clean anyway. IT looks as though the crossover manifold is 2 piece and attaches same as engine pipe to turbo? I should probably split this manifold for reassembly? Thanks Guys. Has anybody heard of a better than stock head gasket for 7.3's , all I can find is for plain 7.3idi. Generic gasket kit

Might want to call ATS themselves and ask them about it. I've always just used the regular gaskets, but I'm also curious is the factory turbo engine has them redesigned somehow.
