Question Accelerator Cable Problems

Hey I have ran in to a problem lately. I just recently did complete rebuild on my 300 and along the way slapped a Holley 4 bbl 390 CFM Carb on there. Well the problem is I have went through three accelerator cables in a period of 2 months. I was just wondering is there another application for the 300 with a 4 bbl that is more heavy duty than the OEM cable? Or can I purchase a cable from a 302 or 351 and it fit? Please help. Thanks...

A company called LoKar sells cables. That is what I used and have not had any problems. I also used their bracket.

Below is from a document I composed on 4bbl upgrade:

The throttle linkage on a 300 l6 is one of the longest at 31 inches and I had concerns about the throttle cable being long enough to reach the carburetor. If I used the factory cable I would need to purchase a throttle ball kit. This kit has several different size ***** and stud lengths. The ball kit is about $5.00. With the uncertainty of the OEM cable was led me to search the net and found a company that sells cables, linkage, brackets and other throttle related hardware called LoKar. They sell mostly to the car restoration community and vehicle modifiers with stainless steel products that look very nice and function equally well. I requested a catalog from them and spoke with a support person over the telephone. With the online information and his help I chose the cable (number TC-1000EFI36) and cable bracket (number SRK-4000) for $34.00 and $20.00 respectively. The cable is a 36-inchs and would provide the length needed. The sleeve has a fixed thread fitting on one end and the other has about 2.5 inches of sleeve adjustment. The cable has a shackle and cleaves on one end and a clamp on the free end. I liked the idea of the length to play with and adjustable tension of the sleeve.

Look at a LOKAR they run about $50.00; but, they are stronger that a stock and they are 36" long.

Sorry to bring this back to the top but I was wondering if anyone knew of a cable for a 351 working for the 300? I would imagine it would be strong enough seeing how the 351's have 4 bbls. Just wondering if anyone had a definate yes or no. Thanks

All of the OEM style cables I looked in using were the same except for the length. I have an 82 with a 302 and the cable looks like the one for the 300 just shorter!

Thanks for your help 5_labsownus. I have decided to go with your suggestion and order from LoKar. I was wondering though, on the OEM cable where the two screws mount the cable to the fire wall...how does that mount with this new cable? Do I just need to fabricate my own bracket to secure it? Just by looking at the picture I don't see how it will bolt up. Thanks./..

One end of the sheath has a long threaded shaft and the other has a short thread shaft. The long end I used to adjust the cable tension at the carb. and the other I used 2 large flat washers through the fire wall. A small amount of sealer made the hole water free. The 2 old screws I returned to the fire wall!

The clevis end of the cable was used at the carb. and I had to drill the hole in the linkage one drill size larger.
