Question 1992 f250 7.5L 460 K&N FIPK anyone done it?

hi, im new and was looking for some answers about how to get a little more power out of my big block. has anyone installed the K&N FIPK(fuel injection performance kit) on a 1992-1996 460? i just bought the kit and was installing it and when i removed the two intake tubes from the plastic whatchamacallit that is like half way between the throttle body and the air filter, the plastic thing has two trumpit/airhorn looking things on it that go inside the tubes. they are nice and smooth/arodynamic but they restrict the air flow down to about the size of a 50 cent piece or smaller per side. i want it to flow better, so i guess my question is, are these airhorn things necessary? or would it be better to cut them off and open it up to the full size of the intake tubes? any info would be helpful. thanks!

Yes you can and should remove those trumpets. They are air silencers, and do nothing but quiet the incoming air. I never installed the FIPK on my truck before getting rid of it. I had a regular K&N filter and exhaust on my truck.
