My old manual says to oil the water pumps on my 239. Where? All I can see is a slot on the top and a slot on the bottom. It looks to me like any oil is just going to run right out. Did these pumps get an update. Both of mine are year old rebuilts. Thanks.
I don't remember what year truck you have, but since you say 'pumps' I'll guess flathead. Late model flathead pumps have sealed bearings. Only reference I find in the shop manual says "Lubricate the waterpumps equipped with an oil cup with engine oil." I suspect the larger trucks may have had provision for this (F7/F8)
I've never oiled mine. ('48 F1) That's nearly 3 years on a daily driver. I think you're good to go as is.
Ford did a variety of things from grease zerks on the 32-36's, to oil channels from the crankcase to the bushings on the mid-series 60's and 85's. Finally in the 48-later trucks they improved by going to the sealed bearings.
Now, some re-pop places are using sealed bearings for the new 85 hp 37-48 car/37-47 truck pumps and the guys are veryy happy to have them.
