Fan Belt 1966 F250 352 alternatives

The V Belts on this 352 pull only the water pump and alternator (no air, PS and no air pump).

My 64-72 Master Parts Catalog shows that the JB446 belt is the correct belt for this application and that it measures 44.6 inches around the outside.

However that leaves very little room for adjustment as the alternator bracket is almost fully extended at this measurement.

I placed the alternator in the middle of the adjustment slot, cut one of the old belts, pulled it around the pulleys tight, marked the overlap and it measured 43 inches.

As long as I purchase two belts that are 15/32 wide on top, is there any reason I cannot find and use belts that are near to 43 inches? (like a JB423)

Thanks!!

That should work if you could buy a match set of belts they used to come packaged together exact same length and width. But why what changed?

Patmedic, I am not sure why the stock belt length is almost too long. My Dad owned this truck since it was new and I know that the alternator was replaced a couple of times as well as the water pump. I suppose that it is possible that one of those pulleys is slightly smaller since they were aftermarket parts...but I admit that seems unlikely.

It makes me wonder if someone else with this 352 without air, air pump and power steering have a similar problem?? Perhaps someone will tell me.

Thanks for your advice!

More then likely when the alternator was replaced you may have gotten one with a smaller pulley already on it. The parts place you go should be able to hook you up pretty easily even if you just took in the old belt and asked to have the two slightly smaller.
