in our shop ive got a old radio and speaker set up around the shop. well i want to set up my comp in the other room to play music on the radio in the shop. well on the radio the only inputs are phono for a record player. well the impedance/voltage for regular rca and phono are different and i wanted to know if any one knew if i can put a inline resistor or somthing so it will be compatable. i hope this makes sense. thanks for the help

Well, I don't know of any adaptors out there but I can tell ya you're fighting three things; impedance, gain & a RIAA equalization factor.
A typical "line in" has an impedance of less that 30K ohms, 200mV input for a full gain output and a flat frequency response. A "phono input" is 47K ohms with a 3mV input for full gain plus has a RIAA equilization curve, actually it's the reverse of the curve that's mixed into the records.
Even if their are adaptors available, I bet you would still have some "hum" in the system.
I would think you could just use a phono to RCA adapter from Radioshack and plug it right in. I have my computer running to the Tape In on my Receiver for my speakers, and it works perfectly. Not sure whether it'll work for you radio though, cause of issues BB brought up. But I think you should pick up the (cheap) adapter and give it a try.
all the inputs on a receiver are the same(tape,cd, aux, video, ect.) except the phono input, it uses a different impendence and gain. you used to be able to get a little box at radio shack called a "phono pre-amp" that plugs inline with normal input sources so you could plug it into a "phono input" and it would work...
I couldn't find one on their website. Make sure you explain exactly what you are trying to do or print a pic of the adaptor in that last link so the bonehead behind the counter doesn't try to sell you something all wrong.
PS: why do they still have that silly cash drawer under the counter that dings?
