Most of the rest stops in the states I've been in have seperate areas for truckers and a seperate area for "autos/pickup". I travel in an RV and park with the truckers and also usually keep my diesel running for the short time I'm there. If I'm going to be there for an extended period I'll run the generator for the same reason the truckers are running their trucks. Anyway, my hearing isn't all that good anyway, so it doesn't bother me!
i appreciate what truckers do for every one of us, everything we use has been on a truck at one point or another, without them, we couldnt exsist
and, i do quite a bit of traveling and have had to take a couple naps at a rest area and to be honest, the sound of the trucks help me sleep and i also look for rest areas with alot of trucks
an other thing, i drive a box delivery truck and understand a little of the truckers views
On our trips we would always park closer to the truckers because we felt safer. Also, the sound of the trucks helps me sleep. I'm kinda partial to the smell of diesel anyway.
Scary sometimes...... the ladies arent safe. I was in a busy rest area. Guess everyone was sleeping. Some guy followed me into the facilities. Dont know what drug he was on.....but he took off, sped down the highway when he realized the odds were not in his favor....I was reaching for his neck.
As for trucks and their drivers. I give them the same courtesy I expect. I let them get that thing wherever they need. Its not because they're bigger. Its not because America would stop without them......its because they are likely missing their loved ones...doin their job, but would rather be home.
As for those drivers who get all rude, careless, and dangerous......others also would like to get home......dont kill us both just because you think all 4 wheelers are ignorant obstacles.
I would like to know exactly how is anyone supposed to get any REST at a rest area with all of those LOUD ANNOYING diesel trucks running their engines?
That's why they call it a "REST AREA"......so that I can rest but it's impossible with all that noise. There should be a law/rule that say's that truckers have to keep their engines OFF.
Maybe the truckers should have their own rest areas?
It's attitudes like this that burn me up. If you can't sleep go to a motel but don't blame the truck drivers. This is their job and without them you probably wouldn't have a job or anything else for that matter. "If you got it a Truck brought it" As a retired driver I know what goes on out there and what it takes to be a truck driver. ell let me say the respect for them sure doesn't show from all the car and little vehicle drivers. Try being in a tuck for 10 or so hours and driving across country away from family and friends and now you ran out of hours so the DOT says you have to stop and rest. Okay you see a rest area and pull in and what do you find, well there is nowhere to park because someone decided to pull his car or pickup into the truck parking area. Come On people show a little respect.
Idle laws now thats a comical thing. Not that i am sticking up for them. Most states have exemptions writting into them like it fine to idle for long periods of time if you have your pet in your rig with you(see were i am going here). Its people like z 97 ford that i came off the road and just drive locally now. Everyone wants there milk and cookies, but don't want to see how it get there. Life is not ever going to be perfect, but what you make it. So instead of B*&^chin about the truck z 97 ford maybe you should think of that truck driver as a savoir. the one that shipps your car /truck parts delivers your gas to the gas station. As for those in the rest area they don't want to be there etheir, getting a knock on their doors by the state police saying they got to move because there a time limit we can stay. Nice huh one government agency saying i have to take 10 hours off and cant move my truck, if i do fines start around $800. but back to what i said about pets. Up here in mass if you have a pet in your truck you are exempt from the idle laws. See what people and the government think of us transportation specialists, were no better than a dog. Go figure

sorry to rant on my last post, did'nt see fordborns post
It's real nice to see so many people "on our side" and sticking up for us, but as some folks will be fast to point out, the shippers, recievers, and ultimatly the consumer's jobs are just as important as ours. We're just "middle men". If it wasnt for any of them we wouldnt have jobs.
So maybe that's you solution z97ford, get everybody in the country to stop buying things, then they wont need stores, recievers, shippers, or truckers! Then you can sleep all you want in the rest areas and not have to listen to our engines.

So once, in this thread, a guy asked a question, then made a suggestion to fix what he saw to be a problem.
Several non-truckers have stated their support for truckers.
Yet its the truckers that are ranting in here and even getting little agressive.
In the immortal, and immoral words of Rodney King....why cant we all just get along? Go ahead, flame me.......I havent been yelled at this hour.
OK, here's my idea. Since it appears there will be "no idle" laws coming, why can't the state, who is all too eager to provide recharge stations for the fantasy electric cars, provide hook ups for trucks at rest stops?
Sure, not every truck has a/c equipt that will work on 110, but in the face of no idle laws, it would seem this might be better than APU's to start. Probably easier to convert than to change to an APU>
