I'm one of the Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop users, and it does slow it down, just a teeny bit at start up. But working with it, it's just as fast as it ever was. The upgrades to the Windows WiFi are great, really makes things easy to see the what & why when WiFi acts up. I also like the IE pop-up blocker, works good!
Tried to update a HP Pavilion, and it freaked out. Very buggy and s-l-o-w on that machine. Uninstalled it, and everything was right again.
I updated my HP and it is definitely slower but the wireless is MUCH MUCH better--only took 10 minutes for 95mb on a wireless connection. Cable of course
I ordered the CD tonight. Got the information and link from my Win XP Newsletters, which also has some examples in the last few newsletters about the SP2 upgrade. Some people have problems some don't. I've just read that if you use Roxio CD burner it may not work with it.

30 min to download with dsl??? time for cable took me about 7 mins to download teh 275 megs on the first day it came out...
No 30 min to download and install. The install process took longer than the download.
Besides, the only cable in my county is Adelphia and is $15 more expensive. Not worth it.
Also it depends when you got the download. A lot depends on M$, how busy they are.

When someone comes up with a product that is even remotely close to microsoft, then talk bad about microsoft. but nothing is close, even linux which is descent has a few years before microsoft has to worry.
90% of computer users use microsoft because it's so horrible
I thought you might like to know these tidbits of info...
Number 1 is a security whole in SP2 ALREADY ... don't get me wrong I love Microsoft (I'm an MS developer) but you should know what you're getting yourself into.
Notice the icon fn250 uses. He's a M$ developer. I started to download SP2 on my dial up and after about an hour and a half I came back to find my connection cut off. I hate that? Decided to wait till I went to bed one night to try again. To my surprise it picked up where it left off. When I got up in the morning my connection had cut out again. Doh!!!
It took me about 5 different tries before I got it all. My wife turned it on the morning after it installed and she couldn't do anything with it. I came home turned it on and just had to use the control center to turn off monitoring my firewall, cause it didn't recognize it, and turned off the virus thing to cause it wouldn't recognize that. Since then all seems to be ok.
As far as some one coming up with a better product than M$ the already did years ago. It was called Geoworks. Designed by the guy who first designed the Apple OS. It did eveything windows did much quicker and took only a fraction of the disk space and memory to run. No bugs either. Problem was M$ had all the major programming companies in their back pocket and Geoworks couldn't get many others to write programs to interface with their product.
I respect Microsoft, Linux, and even apple I just don't think it's a wise idea to install something as drastic as SP2 this soon. You have to realize that SP2 isn't a hotfix, update, or even a real service pack. The thing is over 250 mb, most SP's are close to 100mb. This thing should be considered a whole new OS, kinda like 98 to 98SE. I'm just tryin to help you guys out, cuz MS sure as hell isn't gonna help ya when your comp freezes, stops working, and maybe even god forbid no FTE ... lol
I ordered the CD, but before I install it I'm going to wait a while and see what else transpires. My SP1 and all the other protections I run have kept me safe (knock on wood) for a few years now..so as the saying goes..if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Lotta people complain about windows, because all the hackers are out to get it and exploit everything about it. Well, if everyone suddenly switched to a new "miracle" software system, then windows would be the safest to run, because then the hackers would be out to exploit whatever the majority of people are running. All in all it just don't matter. All I've ever used is Windows and so far I'm pretty happy with it. SP2? I dunno. Going to wait a bit and watch the XP newsletters to see what the majority report comes up with.
