I have a 1979 460 that has a cracked head. I found a guy witha a set of 72 429 heads. Are the valves interchangeable? Whats the difference in the heads? Mine are 4bl dove heads.
Nooooooo, stay away from 1972 heads, that is what I got and you can have mine for free as soon as I find some D0VE or D3VE heads to replace them. 1972 heads were a one year only mistake from Ford, they are open chamber and prone to detonation
The D0VE heads will interchange with C9VE or C8VE as they are similar to what you have.D3VE have larger combustion chambers and pedestal mounted rockers. Also the valves(D3VE) are different lengths than the earlier heads.I agree with the D2VE head comments.
You might want to check what the casting number is on those heads. As said the D2VE heads are junk and run. BUT not all 72 heads are junk. If they happen to be be D2OE-AB casting grab them.
