You are still in front of the hood/firewall if you are leaning in from the side. I'd rather play it safe and take a small amount of time more to do it a different way.

All,
This weekend I have found the problem. It turns out I had a partially clogged fuel filter and when I would put my foot down, it would starve for fuel. Thanks for everyones help during this troubleshooting.

Was it a Fram fuel filter? If so how many miles were on it. Tryng to find people that had problems with Fram fuel and oil filters. Thanks

It was a Fram fuel filter but I don't think that was the cause. I had replaced the fuel tank with a new plastic one due to the liner rusting. I didn't think it had gotten bad enough to hurt anything but I guess I was wrong.
