I have an 04 EB without a navigation system. I seem to recall hearing that the 05 will have a DVD system. Anyone have an idea as to whether I can purchase one from the dealer at this point in time and what it will cost? Would a aftermarket unit be a better idea? Is the unit in the 05 Expy the same on used in the Navigator?
I would recommend aftermarket. More bang for your buck. To install a Nav system from the factory will run around $1500 - $1800. I know for a fact that you can go to a quality "Car Toys" type store and get one for around $1000 - $1500 that will do a lot more. Touch screens are easy to come by and also ones that will play DVD movies while not in NAV mode.
I have an 04 EB with the NAV system and I like it, but am selling the 04 (only because I live in England and over doubled my money) for an 05 BMW X5. I won't get the factory Nav system and will go aftermarket for that and the DVD entertainment system. Good Luck!
Todd, thanks for the link. My question now is how much money for such a gadget?
I've searched the net and the cheapest I found it was the low $1400's. It retails at $2200. If you're bargain shopping make sure you are buying brand new. Some internet dealers pass refurbished items off as brand new which is BS.
Here is a search for that AVIC-N1 and a couple internet stores that carry it.
Good luck. I'm building a system and am heavily leaning towards that exact unit. Wife already OK'd me to buy it.... just can't seem to bring myself to spend the money. Plus I am going to have to pay a installation place to put it in since the navigation system is pretty complex (from what I've been told as far as the wiring goes) That's gonna cost me another $150 from the place I called.
NAv systems are nice to have .. but for that price .. I would rather go buy a 4.00 map .. ... sorry .. but I cant see myself spending that kind of cash for a "toy" ... lol ....

Just got back from a 3000 mile trip from Florida through Canada using the Garmin 2620. My son installed it with a remote antenae on our 03 eddie bower expedition, so it looks pretty good. It was really great. Whenever we took a wrong turn in the mountains, it recalculated an alternate route to our destination, and I took a lot of wrong turns this past 3 weeks. Just getting us through Ny city and Washingotn DC without getting lost was worth the price alone. (I took the maps along too just in case.)

I am looking in to a new raido after having problems with my raido. I would like more options then the factory raido. take a look at Kenwood Excelon DDX7015 it's a double din in dash 6.5" monitor DVD/CD/MP3/WMA Raido. I was also reading about the option you can add on. I was looking on E-bay and I think you can get it for 700 dollars or a little bit more. I don't own stocks or get a discount on the raido but I like that it can fit in to the space of my factory nav raido. Ok well just about all the space. http://kenwoodusa.com/product/produc...productId=2557
