trans gauge

I have a 2002 PSD with and automatic. I notice that when the truck is first started in the morning the trans temp gauge goes right up to the middle of the normal position and it never moves, is this another one of fords "idiot" gauges of is the sending unit or somthing messed up?

Everyone's opinion is that its just a fancy idiot light. I can't find the article anymore, but dieselmann did a test and proved it was pretty worthless. Cheap insurance is a aftermarket tranny gauge and egt gauge.

Nope - that sounds pretty much normal for the stock gauge. My stock gauge will register dead center normal after about 3 minutes of driving - before my Autometer trans. temp gauge has even moved off the stop!! What a waste of dash space!! I'd definitely recommend an aftermarket gauge if you really want to know what your temps are running!!
