I'm interested in putting in a FTVB into my 2002 PSD 4R100 transmission and am interested to see if anyone has one with a SCMT installed. Does it perform alright with the tuner on the mid power setting? Are the shifts acceptable or will they jar you teeth out? Was it well worth doing with the SCMT installed? Thanks in advance for any help....
I installed a Transgo 4R100-HD2 Reprogramming Kit, today.
The original shifts were soft in third & fourth, second was firm.
After the kit all shifts became firm & positive, I liked it. But I am concerned that there is very little feel when selecting reverse & forward.
I have also noticed a shudder when accelerating hard in reverse.
I'll be taking the pan off tomorrow for further investigation, I'll also be increasing the size of the clutch apply holes, as the owner (my freind) wants it firmer.
He did mention that there was a slight shudder in reverse before the kit was installed, but it has now become more pronounced.
The truck has only done 14900 km.
If I can not overcome the shudder I will be contacting Transgo for some help.
But other than the shudder, the shift is firm but pleasant. I used the recommended hole sizes, tomorrow I will increase the sizes significantly.
I have the FTVB installed as well as the SCMT on high mode. Shifts are firm and true, even towing my fifth wheel. Under hard throttle it shifts hard but not teeth chattering hard, and will chirp the tires hard on the 1-2 shift. Just yesterday pulling onto an on-ramp, I had it hard into the peddle, chirped the 2-3 shift. My understanding talking with Gregg, is that he can lighten the shifts for you if you don't like it the way it is. He is great to talk to and work with. Give it a shot, very easy install, bout a half-hour total, and that was changing out the pan as well.
