OK, I feel kind of stupid as it's been like 3 months since I finished my engine, and I'm just now ready to drive, but here's my problem, no oil pressure, as in zero. I started troubleshooting, tell me what you think.
I pulled the distributor and with a flashlight checked to see if the pump shaft was in right,it was, and it's a new oil pump so I'm not suspecting it to be bad.
next I'm going to pull a valve cover and see if oil squirts just on the chance that it may be my gauge. If all this fails, I'm going to pull the oil pan and see if maybe the pickup tube is too close to the bottom or something. Does this sound like I'm on the right track?
Yes. Do not run the engine until you have it solved. Spinning the oil pump with an old distributor shaft and a drill motor is the way to go. That will let you test without damaging any internal engine parts. You can also take the oil filter off and check for flow at the adapter. Put a bucket under it before you do, they flow ALOT of oil, even with a cordless drill. Keep us posted.
When you started it, was there any funny noises or anything? Before you do anything I recommend spinning that oil pump with a drill and see if youve got any oil coming out the oil filter. I think it could be possible that you have a defective oil pump but I doubt it.
Could be a defective pump. The bypass may be stuck open?? Or it could be just not pulling any oil.
Did you prime the pump before installing it?? I usually just pour some oil in the pickup and rotate the pump til I feel some resistance. This will pretty much guarantee it will create enough suction to pull oil from the pan. It should have had enough oil in it(for rust preventive) that it should have worked no matter what.
I would spin it with a drill and see what happens.
no funny noises on startup, in fact it sounded great. I will go ahead and use a drill to check. I'm excited to fix it and see how the crane 801 performs.
